Mark Zuckerberg Net Worth 2026: Meta Stake, Forbes Ranking and the October Slide

Photo Credit: Image Press Agency / Deposit Photos

Mark Zuckerberg’s net worth is estimated at $216.6 billion as of October 2026, according to the Forbes real-time billionaires list, which ranks the Meta founder and CEO sixth in the world. Nearly all of that fortune is his stake in Meta Platforms, the company he started as Thefacebook while a Harvard student in February 2004.

Because his wealth is mostly Meta stock, his net worth moves every trading day. Forbes had him at $258 billion in September 2026, yet a slide in Meta shares through late October pulled the figure back toward $217 billion. The Radar Readout below compares the published estimates, shows how we checked the Forbes number against Meta’s share data, and lets you see how long it would take you to earn the same amount.

You vs. Mark

At $60,000 a year, it would take you 3,610,000 years to earn Mark’s estimated $216.6 billion, before tax and without spending a cent. Facebook's 2012 purchase of Instagram ($1 billion) equals 16,666.7 years of your pay.

Sources and how we estimated this

Our headline follows the Forbes real-time billionaires list as of Oct 26, 2026. As a check, we multiplied his reported 13.68% equity stake by Meta's 2.56 billion shares outstanding and the Oct 26 close of $630.56, which gives about $220.8 billion before any discount. How Mark Zuckerberg’s $216.6 Billion Net Worth Is Built

Forbes does not publish a line by line breakdown, but the shape of his fortune is clear from Meta’s ownership data. Wikipedia’s Meta Platforms entry lists him with 13.68% of the company’s equity and 61.2% of its voting power, and Forbes describes his holding as about 13% of the stock. Meta had about 2.56 billion shares outstanding at the Oct 26, 2026 close of $630.56, according to Stock Analysis.

Our simple share math comes out about 2% above Forbes. Small gaps like this are expected, since Forbes uses its own valuation methods and our quick figure ignores taxes and other adjustments. The important point is that the two approaches agree closely, which is why we rate this estimate as verified.

Another number worth knowing: Meta pays an annual dividend of $2.10 a share. On roughly 350 million shares, that works out to about $735 million a year in dividend income before tax, by our calculation, which dwarfs his $1 salary.

Why His Net Worth Swings by Billions in a Day

With almost everything tied to one stock, small percentage moves in Meta translate into enormous dollar changes. Meta reported quarterly results on Oct 21, 2026. The next day the shares closed at $648.85, down about 7% from $697.52. On a stake of about 350 million shares, that single session erased roughly $17 billion of paper wealth.

The broader October slide was bigger. Meta closed at $762.50 on Oct 13 and at $630.56 on Oct 26, a drop of about 17%. By our math that took around $46 billion off the value of his stake in under two weeks. Stock Analysis puts Meta’s 52-week range at $520.26 to $779.82, so the same stake has been worth anywhere from roughly $182 billion to $273 billion over the past year, before any discount.

That is why we give a range of $200 billion to $235 billion around the headline. It covers the kind of move Meta shares can make in a few weeks without any change in what he actually owns.

Building Facebook Into Meta

Zuckerberg launched Thefacebook on Feb 4, 2004, while at Harvard, and left the university in his second year to run it. Facebook began trading publicly on May 18, 2012, with underwriters pricing shares at $38. The company raised $16 billion after selling 25% more shares than planned, and closed its first day at $38.23. After the IPO he held 22% of the shares and 57% of the voting power.

The company introduced its new name, Meta, at its Connect event on Oct 28, 2021. Today it is a far larger business than the one that went public. Meta reported 2025 revenue of $201 billion and net income of $60.5 billion, and Stock Analysis shows trailing twelve month revenue of $241.61 billion and profit of $75.25 billion. Meta employed 75,472 people as of June 2026.

The Acquisitions That Shaped His Fortune

Much of Meta’s value today rests on deals the company made while he ran it. Instagram and WhatsApp in particular are now core Meta apps:

  • Instagram (2012): Announced on April 9, 2012, at $1 billion in cash and stock. When the deal closed that September, the final price was $300 million in cash plus 23 million shares.
  • WhatsApp (2014): Announced on Feb 19, 2014, for $19 billion, made up of $4 billion in cash, $12 billion in shares and $3 billion in restricted stock units for the founders. WhatsApp had more than 3 billion users as of June 2026.
  • Oculus VR (2014): Bought for $2.3 billion in cash and stock.
  • Scale AI (2025): In June 2025, Meta made a multibillion dollar investment in the data company, with financing that could exceed $10 billion in value.

Together with Facebook itself, these apps make up a company with a market value of about $1.61 trillion at the Oct 26, 2026 close, which is why his 13.7% slice is worth so much.

Control: Why 13.7% Gives Him 61% of the Vote

Zuckerberg owns far less than half of Meta’s shares, yet he controls the company. Meta has super voting Class B shares, and Celebrity Net Worth reports that he holds more than 99% of them. Wikipedia’s Meta entry puts his voting power at 61.2%. In practice, his votes outweigh those of all other shareholders combined.

Real Estate, Yachts and Big Purchases

His property portfolio is large by any normal standard, though small next to his stock. Reported purchases include:

  • Palo Alto: A $7 million home bought in 2011, plus four surrounding properties for a combined $43 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. Forbes lists Palo Alto as his residence.
  • San Francisco: A $10 million townhouse bought in 2013, with more than $1.6 million in renovations.
  • Lake Tahoe: Two adjacent estates for $59 million in 2018.
  • Kauai, Hawaii: At least $145 million spent on land for a planned 1,450 acre retreat, including 110 acres bought in December 2021 for $17 million.
  • Indian Creek, Florida: A home bought in March 2026 for $170 million, a Miami-Dade County record, against an asking price of $200 million.
  • Ireland: His purchase of Strancally Castle was announced in August 2026; the price was not reported.

He has also been linked to two yachts. Wikipedia reports that Launchpad was bought for about $300 million and that media reports place the value of Wingman at around $30 million.

Philanthropy and the 99% Pledge

On Dec 1, 2015, the day their first daughter was born, Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan pledged to give 99% of their Facebook shares over their lifetimes to the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative. Those shares were valued at $45 billion at the time. Two years earlier, in December 2013, he gave 18 million shares worth $990 million to the Silicon Valley Community Foundation.

The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative is a limited liability company rather than a traditional foundation, which lets it invest in companies and fund advocacy. In 2016 it committed $3 billion over a decade to science, including $600 million for the Biohub in San Francisco, with the long term goal of curing, preventing or managing all disease by 2100. Because the pledge is spread over their lifetimes, the bulk of the stake still counts toward his net worth today.
