John Mulaney Net Worth: How SNL, Netflix Specials and a Live Talk Show Built $18 Million

John Mulaney’s net worth is estimated at $18 million as of October 2026, built on a career that runs from the Saturday Night Live writers’ room to a string of Netflix stand-up specials, Broadway, voice acting and, since March 2025, his own live talk show on Netflix, Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney. He is also in the middle of his Mister Whatever stand-up tour, which has dates booked into late 2026 and a New York engagement in 2027.

Published estimates for Mulaney are thin. The main figure in circulation, $15 million from Celebrity Net Worth, does not account for his 2025 talk show or his current tour, and none of his Netflix fees or tour grosses have been reported. That makes our number a model rather than a reported fact. The Radar Readout below shows the starting point, each income lane we added, and the range we think is realistic.

How the published estimates compare

Celebrity Net Worth is the only widely cited figure, and its career summary stops before the Netflix live talk show and the Mister Whatever tour.

How we get to $18 million

  • Mister Whatever tour, 2025 to 2026, kept after costs and tax$2.5M$1.5M to $4M

You vs. John

At $60,000 a year, it would take you 300 years to earn John’s estimated $18 million, before tax and without spending a cent. Our modeled take-home from the Mister Whatever tour ($2.5 million) equals 41.7 years of your pay.

Sources and how we estimated this

We start from the Celebrity Net Worth figure, trim it for taxes and living costs, and treat it as his position in early 2025. We then add modeled take-home pay from the work he has verifiably done since: the Mister Whatever tour, the 12-episode live Netflix talk show, and smaller acting, Broadway and brand income. None of his fees are public, so every lane is a range, not a reported number. How we fact-check

How John Mulaney’s $18 Million Net Worth Is Built

Because no contract values are public, we built the estimate bottom up. The lanes below match the widget. Each figure is what we think he kept after agents, managers, production costs and tax, not gross earnings.

LaneCentral estimateRange
Starting fortune, early 2025 (trimmed from the $15 million published figure)$13.5 million$12 million to $15 million
Mister Whatever tour, 2025 to 2026$2.5 million$1.5 million to $4 million
Everybody’s Live on Netflix, hosting and producing$1.5 million$750,000 to $3 million
Acting, voice work, Broadway and the Years beer deal$500,000$250,000 to $1 million
Total$18 million$14.5 million to $23 million

The biggest uncertainty is touring. Mulaney plays theaters and larger venues for much of the year, and stand-up tours can be very profitable for a headliner with low production costs. Without published grosses, we kept the touring lane conservative and gave it the widest range.

From Comedy Central Assistant to SNL Writer

Mulaney grew up in Chicago and studied English and theology at Georgetown University, where he performed in the campus improv group and met Nick Kroll and Mike Birbiglia. After graduating in 2004 he moved to New York and took a job as an office assistant at Comedy Central before leaving to focus on comedy.

His break came in 2008, when he was hired as a writer on Saturday Night Live. He stayed for about four seasons and co-created the nightclub expert Stefon with Bill Hader, one of the show’s best-known recurring characters of that era. He shared a 2009 Peabody Award with the SNL writing staff and won his first Primetime Emmy in 2011, for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics alongside Justin Timberlake, Seth Meyers and Katreese Barnes.

He has since returned to SNL as host six times, most recently in November 2024. Staff writing salaries are not public, so we do not assign a figure to the SNL years beyond what is folded into the starting fortune.

Stand-Up Specials and the Netflix Relationship

Stand-up is the core of Mulaney’s career and the main reason his earning power rose through the 2010s. His specials include The Top Part (2009), New in Town, and The Comeback Kid, which Netflix released in November 2015.

The breakout was Kid Gorgeous. He toured it in two legs between May 2017 and April 2018, including seven shows at Radio City Music Hall in February 2018, one of which was filmed for Netflix. Kid Gorgeous at Radio City won the 2018 Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special.

He followed it with John Mulaney and the Sack Lunch Bunch, a musical children’s special released on Netflix in December 2019, and Baby J, released on Netflix on April 25, 2023. Baby J dealt directly with his addiction and recovery, including a 2020 intervention staged by friends and a 60-day rehab program in Pennsylvania that December. Netflix has never published what it paid for any of these specials.

Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney

The project that put Mulaney back in the headlines is his Netflix talk show. It grew out of John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s in LA, a six-episode live series that streamed during the Netflix Is a Joke Festival in May 2024. That experiment won the 2025 Critics Choice Award for Best Talk Show and a TCA Award for sketch and variety.

Netflix turned it into a weekly series. Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney premiered on March 12, 2025, and aired live on Wednesday nights, running 12 episodes through May 28, 2025. Mulaney hosts from a couch with celebrity guests and told CBS News he likes the live format because “there’s more at stake.” Deadline reported in January 2025 that Netflix had ordered two seasons, though a second season had not been confirmed on the sources we read.

As host and a producer, Mulaney likely earns a fee per season plus producing income, but neither figure has been reported. Our Netflix lane of $1.5 million kept is a model with a wide range.

Touring: From Scratch to Mister Whatever

After rehab, Mulaney rebuilt his act on the road. The From Scratch tour began with sold-out shows at City Winery in New York, then sold out 21 shows on a run that started in Boston. A later leg was scheduled with 33 shows from March through June 2022. It ran from 2021 into 2023 and became the material for Baby J.

In April 2025 he announced the Mister Whatever tour, with a first leg across the U.S. and parts of Canada. His official site lists dates through November 2026 in venues from Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut to the Tulsa Theater, plus a 2027 engagement billed as Mulaney Takes Manhattan. In September 2025 he announced a July 11, 2026, headline show at Wrigley Field in his hometown, billed as the first comedy headline performance at the ballpark.

No grosses for either tour have been published. Our touring lane assumes he keeps a modest share of ticket revenue after venue costs, promoter splits, commissions and tax, which is why it carries a $1.5 million to $4 million range.

Acting, Voice Work and Broadway

Mulaney has a steady side career in acting and voice work. He voiced Andrew Glouberman on the Netflix animated series Big Mouth from 2017 to 2025, voiced Spider-Ham in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018), and has had a recurring guest role as Stevie on The Bear. Earlier he played George St. Geegland on Kroll Show and created and starred in the Fox sitcom Mulaney, which was cancelled in May 2015 after one season.

Broadway has been a recurring stop. He and Nick Kroll took Oh, Hello on Broadway to the Lyceum Theatre from September 2016 to January 2017, and Netflix released a filmed version in June 2017. He returned in All In: Comedy About Love at the Hudson Theatre, appearing from December 11, 2024, to January 12, 2025. The production recouped its capitalization in early 2025.

In October 2025 he became the spokesperson for Years, a Chicago non-alcoholic beer brand. Terms were not disclosed. We fold all of this into a small $500,000 lane.

Awards

  • Peabody Award (2009), shared with the Saturday Night Live writing staff
  • Primetime Emmy, Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics (2011)
  • Primetime Emmy, Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special, for Kid Gorgeous at Radio City (2018)
  • Primetime Emmy for writing on the SNL 50th Anniversary Special (2025), per NBC

Personal Life

Mulaney married makeup artist Annamarie Tendler in 2014. They announced their separation in May 2021 and divorced in January 2022. He married actress Olivia Munn in July 2024 in New York. The couple have two children: a son born in November 2021 and a daughter born in September 2024. CBS News reported in March 2025 that the family lives in Southern California year-round.

Why Other Sites Say $15 Million

SourceFigureNotes
Celebrity Net Worth (page updated January 2026)$15 millionNo breakdown; career summary does not cover the 2025 talk show or Mister Whatever tour
Net Worth Radar (October 2026)$18 millionModeled: the $15 million figure trimmed, plus estimated take-home from 2025 to 2026 work

The gap between the two figures is almost entirely the work Mulaney has done since early 2025. If the published $15 million already included some of that income, the true figure would sit toward the low end of our range. If his tour has been as large as his Wrigley Field booking suggests, it would sit toward the high end.
